SECOND MODDING FOURM:

Also what I wanted to add was the fact that when you die( I dont want to say anything else) you are stuck as the old player model instead of the NPC you are playing as (If you are). Change the line on the apperance .2DA file where it says-tiger shen, lu the prodigy, and so on-to your characters line and change the number so it goes in order. Now when you die, your an NPC instead of old furious Ming or Tiger Shen.

Edit: Changed title a bit.

Ive got a question how does one set up a game to play as an npc. I'm thinking you do this but I'm not at home so I cant test it. You make a seventh character slot in the players.2da that is identical to a normal PC and play through till you get through the spirit cave. Then you change the appearance tag in the players.2da to your modded character appearance tag #. And continue playing the game.

Is this what you need to do or is their more or less.

Actully you dont make a SEVENTH character

If you want to play through the game without the stupid SPIRIT CAVE or MOVIE GLITCH then you have to make backups of your apperances.2DA and players.2da on your desktop within a folder. Then go into the apperance.2DA and erase the line with the main player character you want to over write. Then there should be a gap...

Copy and paste the line of the NPC you want to play as. Look at the numbers on the left. Make sure when you paste it in the gap the number matches the counting, so that they go in order. MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A COPY OF THE NPC LINE AND NOT A CUT!!!!

Ahh I see so you make the change in the appearance.2da and not in the players.2da. Ok that makes since, thank you very much.

One simple solution is to switch the value of model (or is it modela, I can't remember off hand) in appearances.2da between two different entries. That way say you have Dawn Star and Radiant, swap the values and make sure Dawn Star's files are in override, and now you don't have a clone but two distinct individuals. I've also done it with Lotus Blossum and and Silk Fox so it seems to work. There are some other funny ideas I have but for now I'm still really wishing I could edit the mdl files so that perhaps the headless menu problem would go away. I've tried several experiments and I'm convinced that is the only way to fix the problem.

In diffmodify.2da reduce the numbers in the Minigame column. For example, change the 0.6 on line 0 to 0.0, then, in Student difficulty, the enemies in the mini-game will not be able to damage you. (Note that I have not actually tested this.)

The game scripts check against your appearance ID (row index from appearance.2da) when invoking cutscenes for a characters.

There are other situations where the character's appearance is being checked (there are a few appearance specific dialog lines in the game that you only get with a specific appearance).

Adding a new appearance to the 2da will make these scripts fail and potentially introduce plot blocking problems.

Unrelated: I updated the Jade Empire Modding Documentation on my personal website and added some links to other websites that have information on modding the game.

Interesting website there, Georg. I hope you don't mind my asking, but are there other Bioware folks who have publicly accessible websites?

I'm wondering if anyone knows where the progress for the different flirt path is stored in the save .gff-files?

Some probably have, but I have no idea. I had that website long before starting at Bioware.

I think it's actually on the profile, because it unlocks things on the main menu, which is loaded before any savegame is loaded.

So I've seen lots of talk about modding, but I haven't seen any released mods for this game? Are there not any? Is there a site or forum or someplace they're being hosted that I don't know about?
