My guess is the Dragon Amulet (yes its an Amulet, cryptic huh? ) plays an important part in the story. Now the Amulet itself can be imbued with various gems. Now in traditional RPG's the PC can wear "items" like a torso clothing, pants, boots, gloves, helmet etc... But in JE from what I understand the gems are the games equivilant of such items. So while on screen instead of wearing new boots, you got a new gem in your Amulet, the effects would be the same. Say a boot gives you +3 to Body. In JE, a particular gem would give you +3 to body when its in the Amulet. Nice change from the standard (yawn) proceedure for items, yet still lets you further customise your character by having different properties in your Amulet compared to someone else. _________________ "Time away from the wife is welcome but only if it is less dangerous." - Henpecked Ho |

from the screens and videos i've seen i can say i doubt the amulet will be visible on your character - it's more like a pocket amulet.
but screenshots and videos that bioware have shown us are all fromdemos they made to show their new game so there may be a possibility you could see it round your neck. _________________ Buying a Pazaak card deck, 50 credits. I always thought the amulet was the magical bracer worn around the characters wrists that can be seen when using Chi, etc. For a few clearer picturers of what I mean, go to the screen shot gallery and look at the following screen shots:

First from the left on the fifth row. First and second from the left on the seventh row.

FIrst and second from the left on the top row. First and second from the left on the second row. Third from the left on the fourth row.
Any thoughts? Just remember, an amulet is not always worn around the neck.

The term amulet, unlike a bracelet, is not in reference to where it is worn. Here are two definitions of amulet from Dictionary.Com:
1, An object worn, especially around the neck, as a charm against evil or injury.
2, A trinket or piece of jewelry thought to be a protection against evil.
Although this is not exactly the use in which the Dragon Amulet will be used, it's simply an example that an amulet does not necessarily have to be worn around the neck. The neck is just the most common place one is known to wear such a thing. Therefore, an amulet can actually be worn around the neck, wrist, or even the ankle, and still be considered an amulet.

A while back, we had a discussion about the various things shown in the trailers, and the golden ornament worn by Ming and his father was discussed (for we all thought this was the Dragon Amulet). The feedback we got from the Mods about what is shown in the movies was:
Quote: The Completely Unofficial Jade Empire FAQ It's cool to see you speculate on the implications of what you see in the trailer and what meaning it may have in the game. But remember that trailers for games do not always contain the actual story that will be found within the game. Usually a game’s early trailer, like ours, is done more to show the intent of the game, the look of the game and the general feel of the game. Sure some of the characters may be the same (like Furious Ming for example), but this doesn't necessarily mean that the plot of the trailer will appear in the game its self. Think of it more as a teaser. So, taking this all into consideration, I thought seems the amulet plays a significant role in characterization of Jade Empire PCs, the developers would at least want to give an in game visual of this particular object; the magical bracer is so far the only thing I have seen that resembles the Dragon Amulet.
Or are you referring to videos other than the trailers, and all of the above is irrelevant ramblings?
Is it possible to have a developer comment on whether or not the amulet can be seen in game?

You must party a lot
I had a look at those pics you mentioned, and I thought those magically glowing bracers of power were just a visual to show that you were using your chi. It'd be interesting if they were connected to your amulet, and thus looked different depending on the gems you had installed. Not counting the stylish ghostly armour effects and stuff, you could get all sorts of visuals attached to your fists, sort of a cue to remind you which gems you've got.

Perhaps its just something he keeps hidden out of sight, like in the PC's sash or some other clothing item. He may not even wear it at all! Just keep it on his person, but not wear it. _________________ "Time away from the wife is welcome but only if it is less dangerous." - Henpecked Ho |
